RYA courses break down essential skills into manageable chunks and deliver them to you in a flexible, user-friendly format suited to the type of boating you do. Whether you want more experience afloat, or need to concentrate on your navigation skills, there is a course to help you. The RYA also offers training in specialist areas suck as radar, sea survival and diesel engines, to broaden your knowledge and prepare you for all eventualities at sea.

What does RYA recognition mean?

Taking an RYA course at our of their recognised training centres means you are part of a programme that isred rope known and respected worldwide.
The centres offer training to a standard syllabus, using qualified instructors who are experts in their fields. They will use RYA training materials to guide you through the subject and will have all the equipment you need such as chart plotters, radio simulators, engines etc relevant to the course you are taking.
At the end of the course successful students will receive a RYA certificate
If you want to work at sea some of our certificates can be used to count towards statutory qualifications, enabling you to progress in your chosen career.

Flexible training

@Sailing School - 1st lessonRYA’s navigation courses are suitable for anyone who goes to sea, and range from the two-day Basic Navigation and Safety course to the 40 hour Yachtmaster Ocean course. They are equally relevant for sailors and motor boaters and can be tailored to your experience and aspirations, whilst following the standard syllabus.
Courses are offered in a range of formats such as a series of evenings, weekends or an intensive period. You can also take them through a number of distance learning centres, enabling you to learn at your own pace and at times that suit you.
The RYA’s specialist short courses are typically run over a single day, but may also be available over a series of shorter sessions, depending on the training enter.
If you have a group of people wanting the same course, you could arrange for an instructor to come to you and run the course with dates and venues to suit. Contact your local RYA training centre to explore the possibilities.
